The Winter 2014 Showcase was a true success. We were honored to have the following wonderful coverage in the Willits Weekly, along with several of Maureen Moore’s fantastic photographs!
“The winter show of the North Street Collective showcased the work of six apprentices and drew an audience of around 40 people during Sunday’s opening event. The apprentices’ past teachers, family and friends all came out to support the artistic efforts of Tasia Hooks, Anthony Gonzalez, Tim Oslund, RJ Aldaco, Melany Katz and Katie Stranske. Hooks is working on a Willits People exhibit, showcasing notable Willitsians. Gonzalez created an architectural model of the shed behind the house, showing the plans to rebuild it to be classrooms and office space. Oslund is documenting and mapping previously unmapped wilderness areas of Mendocino County by GPS. Aldaco is hoping to “bolster local bike culture” with the installation of five donated bike racks, to be placed in front of several local spots in town, including North Street and Willits High School. Katz is hard at work revamping the North Street garden, planning flowers and veggies for the coming seasons. Stranske did a study and drawings of several types of the Mycorrhizae that grow locally in Mendocino County.
Open gallery hours are planned soon, and anyone wishing to learn more can check out the website at www.NorthStreetCollective.org.”
