Writer Rose Himber Howse is in the process of revising her first novel, The Stones They
Broke. Set in an industrial quarry town, the novel parses the tensions between progress, tradition, and gender norms in the contemporary rural South. Howse is passionate about queer literature and orange foods. A North Carolina native, she spent ten years in Boston teaching reading and writing to high school students and refugees before returning to the south to pursue a Master’s in Fine Arts in Fiction Writing at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
